Falling – in Rememberance

Falling, falling, falling

Snowing through the air
Flakes settle gently
Covering the ground

Old man shakes his head
The rocking chair remains
His hand on grandchild’s arm
Is still and free from harm

Blueness not of coldness
Of something else unseen
Figures incomprehensible
Seem written in a dream

Falling, falling, falling
Drifting through the air
The town is covered softly
Smothering the ground

Child looks up in wonder
And tears are on his face
He touches bleakly history

Scarred star – story told

Try softened artificially
Stripes given
Flails taken

Falling, falling, falling
Ashes to the ground
Dust to death the people
Free at last and found.

I never really believed one could dream a poem, but this came from remembered fragments after listening to an amazing Auchwitz survivor.
