Carnation or pinks?

The common or garden pinks (dianthus) aren’t quite out in our garden yet.  I love their warm cinnamon vanilla smell that I feel I can taste, (they smell like the taste of…), their dusky pink petals and green grey stems and leaves that if you take off carefully and place in water will sprout and grow to be replanted and their reasonable behaviour as a cut flower for indoors by a person who cannot flower arrange to save her life.

The one above was given to us after my mother – in -law’s funeral from friends at church.  The ones below I took last year – looking forward to the new cycle.
